Do you feel the pressure of being a teenager? Do you have a teen or pre-teen who may be feeling peer pressure? Then surf on over to AboveTheInfluence and see what you’re missing.
AboveTheInfluence and the Above the Influence ads shown on TV and in magazines are created for the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. The campaign is a program run by the Office of National Drug Control Policy. This campaign reflects the results of questions answered by North American teenagers regarding peer pressure.
The goal of AboveTheInfluence is to help teenagers stay above the influence of peer pressure. The philosophy behind the campaign is simple: The more aware teenagers are of the influences around them, the better prepared they might be to stand up to the pressures that keep them down. AboveTheInfluence claims not to tell teenagers how to live their lives. The website is merely presenting facts to help add perspective. It recognizes that each teen must make their own smart decisions.
AboveTheInfluence works well as a conversation starter between parents and their children. Designed using Macromedia Flash 8 animation, the site is interactive. There are quizzes, games and puzzles to help encourage dialog between the generations. Also much of the information is footnoted, allowing for further research. A nice touch for the empirical-minded.
So to summarize, AboveTheInfluence is a great way to converse with your teens about drugs, alcohol, and sex. It’s not particularly easy to navigate, but overall, the site is definitely worth the surf time spent on it. We’d like to see it offered in multiple languages. Why? Because parents and teens from across the planet can access it, so why not give them access to the good information?
So on the .com Dish! Site Surfin’ Scale, AboveTheInfluence rates “T” for teens and older, due to frank and graphic content.
