Hope she was…what? Hope she was…WHAT?! How you gonna leave us hanging like that? What’d he do to make her so mad she SPRAY PAINTED his BMW 530i?! Do you want to know? Don’tcha want to know? Then surf on over to That Girl Emily and see what you’re missing. Is it proof that Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned? Or is it something even more sinister?
Whatever you want to call it, it’s ultimately incredibly creative. What starts out as a blog by Emily, a 35-year-old woman who had been encouraged by her best friend, Laura, to blog as a way of venting some of her marital frustrations, quickly becomes a soap opera replete with betrayal and revenge.
In the tradition of Mexican soap operas, which compel audiences with their finite life span and rich story lines, That Girl Emily begins innocently on June 30, 2006 and ends one month later filled with vitriol and victory.
Engaging story-telling using the amateur journalistic blog device is reminiscent of “digital epistolary novel” genre invented by Eric Brown in the early 21st Century. Emily’s tale takes Brown one step further. His Intimacies explores the relationship of two people through their private emails, IM’s, and pager messages. Emily intimately details the destruction of her marriage via her intentionally universally-available blog, vlog, and occasional outdoor advertisement.
It’s a quick and fascinating voyeuristic trip, but one best suited for teens and above due to its mature content. So though it rates high on the .com Dish! list of sites to surf, That Girl Emily also rates a “T”.
