So it is written, so it is done. Here now are the 2006 YouTube Video Awards Winners:
Most Creative: Rock band OK Go for it’s groundbreaking treadmill music video “Here It Goes Again” (Sweden)
Best Series: Ask a Ninja (USA)
Best Commentary: Comic vlogger Tony Huynh for The Wine Kone (Canada)
Best Comedy: Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox (a.k.a. Smosh) for Stranded (USA)
Most Inspirational: A well deserved Juan Mann for Free Hugs (Australia)
Best Music: Terra Naomi for Say Its Possible (USA)
Most Adorable: Dony Permidi for “Kiwi!” (USA)
For two of the winners, its already a case of YouTube been berry berry good to me! Terra Naomi is currently signed with Island Records and OK Go won a Grammy for their Internet-released video.
Were there some surprises? Sure. Dark horse Tony Huynh upset two of the Tubes most popular vloggers– Peter Geriatric1927 Oakley, and Paul Renetto Robinett, to snag the Best Commentary award. Odds on favorite LonelyGirl15 did not win in the Best Series category. But perhaps the biggest surprise was that many, many, actual, cuddly animals failed to out-cute a virtual, cuddly animated creature in the Most Adorable slot.
We here at SiteSurfin applaud all the winners, commiserate with all the losers and offer this one ray of hopetheres always next yearunless Viacom has its way.
