“Readers have long hungered for greater contact and more information about authors,” says Sue Fleming, Vice President, Online and Consumer Marketing for the Simon & Schuster Adult Publishing Group.
That is why the CBS-owned S&S will collaborate with the TurnHere video production service to create BookVideos.tv. In an interview with Donna Bogatin of ZDNet, Fleming explains why book publishers Simon & Schuster decided to go Web 2.0 with the creation of a book-centric online video channel.
Fleming says that BookVideos.tv will “humanize authors. Readers like to talk about books as much as read them,”
Judging BookVideos.tv by its cover, the website seems to compete directly with the other S&S online property, SimonSays.com. Fleming contends that while Simon & Schuster book videos have traditionally been single-title driven by targeting specific book content, personality profiles of authors will be the focus of the BookVideos.tv platform
BookVideos.tv is slated for a June launch.
